Day 18: October 4

October 5, 2010 by melragent 1 Comment

I am OK.  I am tired, but I seem to be OK.  I will be having a follow up ultrasound on Friday just to make 100% sure that everything with me is good.  The medicine made me very crampy, so I spent the day back on percoset.

As for Mr. Sam… he had a mixed day.  I got to the hospital around 10 am and spend a good 3 hours with him.  He was not really up for a cuddle, so we did a lot of hand holding instead.  The biggest issue is his kidney function. His urine output is really low, and his BUN and creatine are high- both indicators that his kidneys are not doing what they are supposed to do.

Since Sam was not up for a cuddle and I was admittedly exhausted, I went home to rest.  At about 5:30 I got a call from the hospital that his kidney function was starting to concern the doctors and they were going to start doing a number of tests.  Then, at 7 pm we got another call that they think Sam has developed an infection and were going to start him on a course of antibiotics.  His crit had also dropped, so they wanted to give him another blood transfusion.  Well, this was enough for me- I called in my parents so Peter and I could go to the hospital to see him.  nd boy was I glad we did.

While we were there, they started the blood transfusion and he started to perk up right away.  He also had a sudden urine output.  Both of these things were really good signs.  Fingers are firmly crossed that between the antibiotics and the blood transfusion, tomorrow will be a much better day for Sam.

As for me, I need about 24 hours of uninterrupted sleep… but I will settle for 5 hours.

And here is your hand holding moment of zen:

Holding hands with mom

And for those of you wondering, yes, both Peter and I had forgotten about our anniversary today so we have decided to postpone it until further notice.
