I survived Sam’s second birthday

September 16, 2012 by melragent Leave a Comment

I did it! I managed to make it through Sam’s second birthday without too much of an emotional break down. Maybe it was all the worry that I would break down, or maybe it was the exhaustion from a long work week, or maybe, just maybe I am starting to heal… whatever it was, today was a great day.

The first part of the day was great.  Sam took a nice long nap, and when he woke up, we headed to his favorite place… the park.  An hour of slides and swing was just what the birthday boy needed.  From there we went to Fenton’s for the traditional ice cream celebration.

Unlike last year, we kept the party simple: Peter, Irene, me, Sam (of course), my parents, and Sam’s other family, Lupita, Rosa and Gil.  It was perfect – just family.  Sam seemed to have a great time, shoving mac n cheese in his mouth with both fists, and watching in awe of all the ice cream people were eating.  When it was his turn for a scoop, he was ready.  The restaurant all sang to him- and he even mouthed the words to “Happy Birthday” with the group.  He then ate as much ice cream as he could – and then projectile vomited all over the table.

All in all – a successful trip to Fenton’s!
